The tours travel the length of the spit stop to climb one of the huge dunes and for refreshments at our lighthouse keeper's cottage in the shadow of the lighthouse whilst on the lighthouse reserve we have time to explore, soak up the atmosphere and see the lenses which were once in the top of the tower. There is a pouwhenua placed by the local iwi to indicate their connection to the spit, and nearby a panel explaining some of their legends.
